There are many types of bandages, such as the support bandages, the medical bandages, etc., but they all serve the same purpose: to help keep the wound clean so that the wound can heal faster. Ideally, your first aid kit should have sterile bandages (I even put some in my wallet to prevent minor injuries on the road). However, if you don't have a bandage, it is actually very easy to make your own bandage. Some commonly recommended materials, such as tissue, toilet paper, and duct tape, are not effective for bandages and may cause infection. So, here is what you need to know, use homemade materials to make your own bandages at home.

What are you supposed to do if you are hurt?

For any open wound, the first task is to stop bleeding and prevent it from being infected. If you find that you don't have any bandages, there are some options you can use that you may not immediately think of.

Other wounds, such as sprains or fractures, can also benefit from bandaging. There are many ways to do it quickly and easily without having to carry a complete first aid kit.

How to make a bandage?

If you don’t have fabric, paper towels are a good substitute for bandages. You need something clean to put directly on the wound, but after that, you can use this paper and tape to fix the position of the protective covering.

If possible, use some gauze to wrap the wound. If you don’t have gauze, use paper towels instead. Unlike tissue, this does not stick to the wound. Another option is a clean fabric. Search some tape. Any type can work because you only need to use it to stay in place. Bandage the wound, cut or tear the gauze or paper towel into the best shape and size. It needs to cover the entire wound and leave some material on the edges. Before using the dressing, make sure to clean the wound with a disinfectant or liquid or simple water. Put the dressing on the wound.

Stick the tape firmly over the dressing to hold it in place. If the wound is bleeding, you may need to apply some pressure to slow and stop the bleeding.

What are other kinds of bandages?

Triangular bandage or sling

Triangular bandages need to be clean, but not necessarily sterile, because they will not come into close contact with open wounds. A triangular bandage can be used as a sling or tourniquet and a cane, the shaft of a screwdriver or other tools you may have. This makes them versatile and useful.

To make a triangular bandage, all you need is some sturdy material, preferably cotton. Simply cut a triangle with a 55-inch base and a 40-inch side on the cloth. You have a multifunctional triangular bandage.

Elastic bandage

Elastic bandages help to secure the splint and support the sprained ankle. The easiest way is to cut the legs of some old jeans to the width you need. You can use a sewing bag to make a cloth pipe, which fits pretty tightly on your arms or legs.
